After spending four years recording and touring with K-pop outfit Monsta X, South Korean vocalist Wonho launched his solo career following his departure from the group in late 2019. His initial singles “Losing You” and “Open Mind” quickly paved the way for the debut EP Love Synonym No. 1: Right for Me to top the Korean charts. Subsequent releases such as the 2021 EP Love Synonym No. 2: Right for Us, the 2021 set Blue Letter, and the 2022 project Facade have kept him inside Korea’s Top 20.

Born in Sangbong-dong, South Korea, musician Wonho (real name Lee Ho-seok) began performing in the mid-2010s with Starship Entertainment’s Nu Boyz. One year later he was chosen as an original member of Starship’s Monsta X, assembled via the competition program No.Mercy. Throughout the remainder of the decade he contributed to five studio albums and seven EPs with the group, each reaching the summit of Korea’s Gaon Charts. At the close of 2019 he was dropped from the Monsta X lineup amid money- and drug-related allegations that a five-month probe by the Seoul Metropolitan Police ultimately dismissed as unfounded. Cleared of the claims, he introduced himself as a solo act in 2020. After the single “Leaving You” gained traction, he issued his first EP, Love Synonym Pt. 1: Right for Me, in September 2020, securing the top spot in Korea while entering the Top Ten of Billboard’s World Chart. Its companion, Love Synonym Pt. 2: Right for Us, followed in February 2021 and again ranked among Korea’s highest-charting albums. Later that year the third EP Blue Letter appeared, driven by the Top 20 Korean single “Blue” and peaking at number five on the Gaon Chart. February 2022 brought the single album Obsession, which included the tracks “Eye on You” and “Somebody,” and June saw the arrival of the fourth EP Facade, which opened at number eight in Korea.
