California rapper Yhung T.O. gained recognition primarily through his role in the collective SOB X RBE (Strictly Only Brothers, Real Boi Entertainment), where his signature vocal-rap hybrid approach stood out. Vallejo, the Bay Area city that served as home to every member of the crew, is where he was born and raised. He began creating music alongside DaBoii by using a Playstation for production and capturing vocals directly on their phones. Through shared contacts they later linked up with Lul G and Slimmy B, quickly bonding over a shared creative vision that evolved into a tight-knit brotherhood. The members repeatedly stressed that SOB X RBE originated not as a conventional rap group but as a supportive network that allowed each artist to pursue solo releases and frequent guest appearances. Yhung T.O. himself regularly stepped outside the collective, appearing on Nef the Pharaoh’s “Spice” and Philthy Rich’s “Around,” the latter also featuring Gucci Mane. By 2017 he had completed his first solo project, On My Momma, which included contributions from DaBoii, Slimmy B, and fellow California rapper Mozzy. In 2018 the entire SOB X RBE lineup supplied the track “Paramedic!” to the number-one soundtrack for the film Black Panther. The crew’s own release Gangin followed and reached number 74 on the Billboard 200 during the first half of that year, while Gangin II surfaced later in the fall after Yhung T.O. announced his departure from the group.
