Biography
Yunel Cruz, a bachata singer and songwriter based in New York City, notched his initial chart success in 2010 with the single "Dominicanita." Born Jofre Cruz, he cites Miles Peña and Frankie Negron among his key influences, having written his first song at age nine before enrolling at Fisher College in Boston.
The track that introduced him arrived on the four-song Something Different EP, issued independently by Kobe Records that same year and also containing the variant "Mi Mexicanita." Two further singles followed in 2011: "Made for You" and "Soy Tu DJ." A fresh iteration of the breakthrough hit, now titled "Mi Colombianita," was released as a standalone single in 2012.
