London-based British doom metal power trio 40 Watt Sun formed around guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist Pat Walker, previously of Blistering Anal Sun and Warning, along with drummer and percussionist Christian Leitch—once the River’s guitarist and the final kit player in the original Warning lineup—and bassist William Spong, a noted producer and engineer. Their sound hinges on heavily downtuned, low-end distorted guitars, densely stacked tom-tom and kick patterns, glacial tempos, and Walker’s characteristically plain-spoken yet introspective vocals carrying poetic, inward-looking lyrics. The group’s debut performance took place in 2009 at London’s Scream Club, where they supported Wake. Their first album, Inside Room, was tracked for Cyclone across three consecutive days and nights in late 2010; the record appeared in England and throughout the rest of Europe that March and reached the United States that July.
