Biography
Roman-born Alex Britti revealed an early aptitude for music, taking up the guitar in the mid-1970s when he turned eight. Before reaching his twenties he had assembled a trio that began playing live dates. Working Rome’s club scene brought him local recognition, with appearances at prominent city festivals and occasional guest spots alongside visiting artists such as Louisiana Red. His growing profile soon led to sideman work with touring musicians including Buddy Miles and Billy Preston. In 1990, at twenty-two, he joined Rosa King for a European tour; the steady schedule gave him time to write original Italian songs. His self-titled debut album arrived in 1992, presenting him to Italian listeners as a singer-songwriter. Subsequent opportunities included stage slots at Primo Maggio in 1994 and 1995, a television appearance on Generazione X in 1995, and film scores for Uomini Senza Donne (1995) and Stressati (1996). Singles “Quello Che Voglio” and “Solo una Volta” built anticipation for his 1999 Sanremo Festival triumph, where he won the New Singer category. The follow-up album La Vasca, issued in 2000, exceeded one million copies sold. Britti has continued to appear regularly at Sanremo and on domestic pop charts with later releases such as 3 (2003) and Festa (2006).
