Francesco Renga pursued an independent path after devoting 13 years to Timoria, a group whose initial lineup coalesced while its members were still attending high school. Following the release of seven albums during that stretch, he chose to launch a solo career with a self-titled debut on Universal—the same label that had supported Timoria—in 2001. That year he submitted the song “Raccontami” to the San Remo Festival and received the critics’ newcomer award alongside Roberto Angelini, aided by his compelling live delivery. Tracce arrived in 2002, with Camere con Viste following in 2004.

Renga revisited the San Remo stage in 2005 and achieved stronger results when “Angelo” captured the festival’s top honor, prompting a reissue of Camere con Viste that added the winning track as a bonus. In June 2007 he unveiled the single “Cambio Direzione” to herald the October arrival of Ferro e Cartone, which became his first number-one album in Italy. The string-laden Orchestra e Voce also performed well on the charts in 2009.

Throughout the 2010s his momentum appeared to plateau, as both 2010’s Un Giorno Bellissimo and 2012’s Fermo Immagine remained outside the Top Ten. Tempo Reale, however, returned him to the summit of the Italian charts in 2014 and kept the album in the Top 20 for six months, fueled by the hit singles “Vivendo Adesso,” “Il Mio Giorno Più Bello nel Mondo,” and “A un Isolato da Te.” Two years later Scriverò il Tuo Nome once again placed him at the peak position in his home country.
