Biography
From her earliest days, Anaysha—who has also recorded as Anaysha Figueroa and Anaysha Figueroa-Cooper—has balanced gospel music with occasional acting. Her singing began almost as soon as she learned to speak, and her first public appearance came at age two inside New Life Tabernacle, the Brooklyn, New York church where she was born and raised. Although she appeared in films as a child and young teenager, notably the 1990 release Mo' Better Blues and the 1993 film Life with Mikey, her strongest drive was always toward music. A commanding soprano paired with an emotionally intense approach quickly made her a sought-after session and touring vocalist, supporting Kirk Franklin, Alicia Keys, John Legend, Whitney Houston, John Mayer, Kim Burrell, Ledisi, Israel Houghton, Donnie McClurkin, John P. Kee, Marvin Sapp, James Fortune, and Fred Hammond, among others, often in featured roles. National exposure arrived when she sang backup on the BET series Sunday Best, an appearance that directly secured her a recording contract with Light Records.
