Biography
Arthur Beatrice took its name from Golden Girls actress Bea Arthur and came together in London in 2010 when school friends Orlando Leopard, who supplies vocals and guitar, Ella Girardot, who handles vocals and keyboards, and brothers Hamish on bass plus Elliott Barnes on drums joined forces. By founding their own imprint, Open Assembly, the group steered its promotions and live bookings without outside help. Early interest spread through personal recommendations and updates shared across social platforms. Comparisons to the xx, Warpaint, and the Sundays greeted the debut single “Midland,” which also earned the quartet a spot in The Guardian’s Bands to Watch column. February 2014 saw the arrival of the first album, Working Out. Three years later the same lineup returned with Keeping the Peace, enlisting the London Contemporary Orchestra for several tracks.
