Astrid Suryanto

By the time she turned 22, Indonesian-born singer/songwriter/producer Astrid Suryanto had already secured respect and club plays from DJs Victor Calderone and John Digweed. Working out of her Houston, TX, residence, she crafted original tracks using software obtained at no cost from the Internet together with a microphone acquired at a pawnshop. The resulting songs “You Give Me (Love)” and “All I Know” quickly attracted spins from every DJ to whom she submitted them, and John Digweed went on to license “All I Know” for release on his Bedrock imprint. Suryanto entered into a recording relationship with the Strata label in 2004, which put out her singles Rainwater and More and More. Inclusion of a Victor Calderone remix of “Rainwater” on Webster Hall’s New York Dance CD, Vol. 6 placed Suryanto alongside Dannii Minogue and Crystal Waters.
