Biography
Born on January 21, 1985, in Copenhagen, Danish singer-songwriter Aura Dione pairs confessional lyrics with pop hooks while blending acoustic textures and electronic production. Her Spanish-heritage bohemian parents took her sailing through numerous European ports during her first seven years, after which the family established a home on Bornholm. Exposure to an Anne Linnet holiday album at age two awakened her awareness of music’s emotional reach, leading her to begin composing at eight; a song written at eleven later appeared on her debut record. At seventeen she moved to Australia, where encounters with a wide circle of people introduced her to Aboriginal musical and cultural traditions. A period in Japan preceded her return to Denmark, where a meeting with producer Kenneth Bager brought a contract with his Music for Dreams label. The 2007 single “Something from Nothing” preceded the January 2008 release of her first album, Columbine, whose international hits “Song for Sophie” and “I Will Love You Monday (365)” earned her a worldwide agreement with Universal International Music. Before the Dinosaurs followed in 2011.
