British duo Austin Tate fuse wistful R&B singing with sleek, propulsive house rhythms suited to after-hours listening. The project unites veteran producer Ed Butler, known for his Billon alias, with songwriter Lee Paul Williams. Together they have issued multiple singles, among them the 2022 release “Late Night Body Language.”
Ed Butler, previously a member of the drum’n’bass pair Cinematic, launched his house-music output as Billon in 2013. Under his own name he delivered the track “They Know,” which influential broadcaster Pete Tong selected as one of 2020’s essential tunes. Lee Paul Williams has likewise maintained a long and fruitful career, co-authoring BTS’s “Lost” and supplying both songwriting and vocals for MK’s “Body 2 Body.”
The pair formed Austin Tate in 2021 and issued their first recording, “Endorphins,” early that year. “Hurt This Way” appeared next, followed in 2022 by “Synchronised.” They also teamed with SOMMA and yuma. for “Harder We Fall” and, after signing with Big Beat Records/Atlantic, unveiled “Late Night Body Language” featuring Just Charlii.
