YG Entertainment introduced BabyMonster in 2023 as the third major girl group in its roster, extending a lineage that previously featured 2NE1 and Blackpink. The seven-member multinational lineup, fluent across multiple languages, first reached listeners in late 2023 via the driving single “Batter Up,” taken from the 2024 EP BabyMons7er, then claimed the top spot on South Korean charts with 1st Full Album [Drip].

Preparation for the act began in the late 2010s, drawing members from across Asia: South Koreans Ahyeon, Rami, and Rora; Ruka and Asa from Japan; and Pharita and Chiquita from Thailand. After several years of training, the label began hinting at their arrival in late 2022. Individual members were revealed one by one throughout the next year, yet the first music did not surface until May, when the unofficial pre-debut track “Dream” appeared.

November brought the official launch with “Batter Up,” a forceful dance-pop cut that spotlighted the septet’s vocal and rap strengths while fusing ’90s-styled R&B girl-group textures with the drive of labelmates Blackpink. The track registered strongly across Asia, New Zealand, and the United States, entering the Top 20 on multiple regional charts. February 2024 saw the follow-up single “Stuck in the Middle.” Together the two songs led to the self-titled EP BabyMons7er, released that April and peaking at number three on South Korea’s Circle Albums chart and number 15 on Billboard’s World Albums tally.

In November the group issued its first full-length project, Drip, or 1st Full Album [Drip], which included the title track alongside “Forever” and “Clik Clak.” The album entered at number one in South Korea, number seven in Japan, and registered on the Billboard 200.
