Denmark's Barcode emerged in 1995 as one of European hardcore's leading acts, with the enigmatic guitarist known only as Panter remaining the sole original member throughout the group's existence. Shortly after the release of their 1997 debut album Hard Jet Super Flash, produced by veteran metal figure Tommy Hansen whose credits include Helloween and Pretty Maids, the founding singer Greg Fastrup and rhythm guitarist Kenneth Madsen departed and were succeeded in turn by Butch on vocals and Jacob "Dr. J" Bredahl of Hatesphere on guitar. Subsequent Barcode releases encompassed the 1999 album Beerserk, the 2000 split 7" Aarhus Oedelaegger Julen, the 2002 effort Hardcore, and the 2005 full-length Showdown, together with multiple compilation tracks, every one rooted in the purest and most genuine strain of the genre.
