Biography
John Brodeur, a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist based in New York, channels his work through Bird Streets, a project that fuses warmly introspective indie rock with classic power pop. Previously active in outfits including the Suggestions and Maggie Mayday, and intermittently releasing material under his own name, Brodeur started Bird Streets in Los Angeles with assistance from Jason Falkner (Jellyfish, Beck, the Grays), resulting in the first album’s arrival in 2018.
After issuing the 2013 solo album Little Hopes, Brodeur devoted time in L.A. to writing and tracking new songs alongside longtime friend Falkner. He settled on the name Bird Streets both to evoke a Hollywood Hills neighborhood and to nod toward the streets of his earlier hometown, Albany, New York. Working together across New York and L.A., the pair finished the self-titled debut over two years, Falkner producing while the two shared instrumental duties; Omnivore Records released the album in August 2018.
