Malik Flint, the multifaceted vocalist, composer, arranger, and instrumentalist who records as bLAck pARty, crafts expansive, atmospheric alternative R&B laced with island inflections ideally suited to seaside get-togethers and warm-weather downtime. He has worked alongside Childish Gambino, Kari Faux, and Gavin Turek, while his recordings have appeared in television shows such as Insecure, Atlanta, and Dear White People. His catalog comprises the RCA-released albums Endless Summer (2019) and Hummingbird (2022).

Flint studied trumpet during middle school before independently mastering additional instruments and recording techniques in high school. After creating solo material and performing with several ensembles, he formed the group Flint Eastwood in his final year of high school while his family resided in Arkansas. The band fused ambient rock and hip-hop, issued an EP and a full-length project, and toured in support of Big K.R.I.T. and Nappy Roots. Once the group disbanded, Flint adopted the alias Black Party and began producing tracks for his longtime associate Kari Faux. Their joint effort “No Small Talk” drew notice from Childish Gambino, who supplied a remix that landed on his 2014 mixtape STN MTN. Flint then issued his own mixtape, Prototype, highlighting his abilities behind the boards and on the microphone.

After relocating to Los Angeles, he refined the spelling of his stage name to bLAck pARty, the uppercase letters denoting both past and present cities of residence. He lent contributions to Childish Gambino’s 2016 album “Awaken, My Love!” and served as executive producer for Kari Faux’s Lost en Los Angeles. Faux in turn appeared on bLAck pARty’s nine-track project Mango, which its creator labeled “tropical funk.” Childish Gambino subsequently placed bLAck pARty on his RCA-distributed imprint Wolf + Rothstein, resulting in the 2019 studio album Endless Summer. Flint guested on projects by Gavin Turek and Quadry in 2021. The next year bLAck pARty delivered the full-length Hummingbird, which included joint tracks with Childish Gambino (“I Love You More Than You Know”), Kari Faux (“BOMB”), Saba (“KEMET”), and additional artists.
