Bob Bennett

Born in Downey, California in 1955, folk-styled CCM singer/songwriter Bob Bennett took up guitar at nine and assembled a rock band during high school. His conversion to Christianity in the late 1970s redirected his songwriting toward themes of faith. He debuted in 1979 with First Things First, then resurfaced three years later with Matters of the Heart, named Album of the Year by Contemporary Christian Music Magazine. Following the 1985 release Non-Fiction, Bennett toured alongside Amy Grant. In 1989 he issued Lord of the Past: A Compilation, which reached number one on the CCM chart with its title track, while the follow-up single “Yours Alone” also topped the same tally. Songs From Bright Avenue, a 1991 concept album that examined the dissolution of Bennett’s marriage, preceded his 1997 return with Small Graces.
