Cashmere

Having served as lead tenor and falsetto frontman for the R&B ensemble Heaven & Earth, Dwight Dukes launched Cashmere, a dance- and club-focused outfit grounded in R&B. Keyboardist McKinley Horton, drummer Daryl Burgee, and Keith Steward—another former Heaven & Earth singer—rounded out the lineup. With Dukes’ vocals at the center, the group landed four singles on the R&B charts from 1983 to 1985. Although Cashmere’s run proved brief and yielded only three albums, each release featured a new supporting cast while Dukes remained the constant anchor.
