The British disco-techno group Clock earned their widest recognition through mainstream reinterpretations of earlier hits, notably a 1995 house-infused take on Harold Faltermeyer's "Axel F." and a 1997 electronic revision of Hot Chocolate's "You Sexy Thing." Founded by DJ and producer Stu Allan together with Peter Pritchard, the project deliberately bypassed underground club acceptance, instead targeting dance-pop successes built around nostalgic disco motifs and restrained acid-house accents from the outset. Following their Technotronic-styled first release, "Holding On," which featured an intense but short-lived vocal turn from Ann Marie Smith, the lineup added dance instructor ODC MC (Marcus Thomas of Tzant, The Cool, The Fab & The Groovy) and law student Tinka as regular vocalists. This configuration yielded close to a dozen Top 40 singles plus the albums It's Time in 1995, About Time 2 in 1997, the Japan-exclusive Boogie Stand in 1999, and a career-spanning compilation issued in early 2000. Stu Allan passed away on September 22, 2022, at age 60 during care for a rare stomach cancer.
