Oklahoma-born Cody Hibbard delivers country songs steeped in blue-collar candor, blending lessons earned through hardship with an undercurrent of heartfelt nostalgia. For a long stretch he treated music as little more than a hobby until the onetime pipeliner issued his debut EP in 2020, which amassed millions of streams on the strength of tracks such as “Dying Breed” and “Half Whiskey, Half Lonely.” Additional singles appeared while he logged countless miles on the road, culminating in the August 2024 arrival of his first full-length project, Long Ride in a Short Bed.

Raised in Adair, Oklahoma, Hibbard had always loved music, yet his path to becoming a singer and songwriter remained dormant for years. A serious shoulder injury sustained at the United States Naval Academy led to a prolonged struggle with pain-medication dependence. Once he overcame that addiction, he took up pipelining as a tradesman and began performing in bars during off periods. His first single, “Half Whiskey, Half Lonely,” was cut in 2019 and later featured on the 2020 EP Memory and a Dirt Road. The approachable warmth of his baritone, paired with lived-in storytelling, resonated widely, and “Dying Breed” in particular surged in online streams.

In the ensuing years Hibbard kept writing and recording, issuing a self-titled EP in 2021 along with the 2022 single “Different Now” and the 2023 release “Looking Back Now,” all while maintaining a steady touring schedule across the country. He stayed independent throughout, forging his own route to success. Further 2024 offerings such as “Rollin’” and “Set in My Ruts” set the stage for the arrival of Long Ride in a Short Bed.
