Biography
Jake Worthington first reached a broad audience through his participation in the modern television phenomenon The Voice, yet the performances he delivered during that competition revealed a clear allegiance to classic honky-tonk traditions. Building on that foundation after his time on the program, he channeled those influences into the long-awaited self-titled full-length album he issued in 2023, positioning himself as a direct successor to the Texas country sound pioneered by George Strait.
Born March 1, 1996 and raised in La Porte, Texas, country singer Jake Worthington enjoyed a quintessential rural upbringing centered on fishing, mudding, four-wheeling, and athletics until a football injury that fractured his back introduced him to music. Confined by the injury, he cultivated a deep appreciation for traditional and neo-traditional country, and with his naturally resonant Texas drawl, he began pursuing a professional path. After failing to advance past the blind auditions on season five of The Voice in 2013, Worthington returned for season six the following year, secured a spot on Blake Shelton’s team, and ultimately finished second, incorporating classic country material from Keith Whitley, George Strait, Waylon Jennings, and similar artists throughout the season. The exposure helped him cultivate a dedicated following, after which he returned to Texas at age eighteen to complete high school. His first digital single, “Heaven,” arrived in May 2014. He later aligned with W3 Entertainment and, toward the end of 2015, released his self-titled debut EP, which reinforced his old-school traditional country persona. Tracks such as “How Do You Honky Tonk” and “A Lot of Room to Talk” later appeared on his second EP, Hell of a Highway, issued in 2017.
Worthington maintained a relatively low profile for several years, though he did release “Don’t Think Twice,” the final track from Hell of a Highway, as a single in 2019 and contributed a guest vocal to Ronnie Dunn’s 2021 single “Jonesin’.” When he resurfaced in 2023, he delivered his first full-length project, an album titled Jake Worthington that was introduced by the singles “Next New Thing” and “State You Left Me In” and made available in April 2023.
