Biography
Formed in 2016 in Tempe, Arizona, the aggressive nu-metal outfit DED emerged from the remnants of regional acts Greeley Estates and Man Made Machine. The quartet solidified soon after Man Made Machine played its last show, centering on vocalist Joe Cotela, drummer Matthew Reinhard, bassist Kyle Koelsch, and guitarist David Ludlow. Their first release, the single “FMFY,” surfaced that December, followed by “Anti-Everything” the next May. Suretone Records issued the group’s debut album, Mis-An-Thrope, two months afterward. In 2020 a two-song EP arrived, pairing “A Mannequin Idol (Lullaby)” with “Eyes Sewn Shut.” Both tracks reappeared on the band’s second album, School of Thought, which Kevin Churko produced and which reached stores in 2021. Though tighter and more polished, the record retained the same unyielding intensity and introduced guitarist Alex Adamick to the studio lineup.
