Formed in Queens, New York during 2011, the metalcore quintet Sylar overwhelms audiences through its frantic, crushing intensity. Comprising vocalist Jayden Panesso, guitarist and vocalist Miguel Cardona, guitarist Dustin Jennings, bassist Travis Hufton, and drummer Thomas Veroutis, the group treats the recording studio itself as an additional instrument. Its heavily produced and processed aesthetic features angular edits and gated guitars that yield an almost mechanical texture, a direction clearly influenced by Caleb Shomo of Attack Attack!, who helmed the self-released debut EP Deadbeat in 2013. Shortly afterward Razor & Tie signed the band and issued its first full-length album, To Whom It May Concern, in 2014. The next year the group moved to Hopeless Records and began recording a follow-up; Help! emerged in August 2016, preceded by the lead single “Assume.”

While touring behind the record, drummer Thomas Veroutis stepped away and was replaced by Cody Ash, who remained with Sylar once the tour concluded. In mid-2018 the band traveled to Los Angeles to track its third album, Seasons, alongside producer Erik Ron, known for his work with Slaves and Dance Gavin Dance; the finished LP appeared just months later.
