Before obtaining a driver’s license, the multi-talented Daniel “Diggy” Simmons had already landed a recording contract, marking him as a rapper, reality television personality, fashion entrepreneur, and blood relative of hip-hop icons. As the offspring of Joseph “Rev Run” Simmons from the pioneering Run-D.M.C., he first entered the spotlight in 2005 through appearances on the family-focused series Run’s House alongside his parents and five siblings. By 2009 he asserted his musical presence via the DJ Spinking-hosted mixtape The First Flight. Early the following year a freestyle he laid over the beat from Nas’ “Made You Look” spread rapidly online, prompting Atlantic to offer a contract that the then-15-year-old promptly accepted by issuing the Airborne mixtape. That project contained “Great Expectations,” which later soundtracked a nationwide advertising push for a leading U.S. wireless carrier; around the same period Simmons launched his Chivalrous Culture sneaker collection. In 2011 he issued the single “Copy, Paste” and shared stages with Mindless Behavior and the New Boyz during the Scream Tour across America.
