Mindless Behavior

Assembled by production team Vincent Herbert, whose résumé includes work with Toni Braxton, Destiny's Child, and Lady Gaga, alongside Walter Millsap, known for collaborations with Alicia Keys and Beyoncé, the pop-R&B quartet Mindless Behavior brought together vocalists and dancers Princeton, Prodigy, Ray Ray, and Roc Royal. Within six months of coming together, the four-piece secured a deal with Interscope, then made their Billboard-chart entrance in February 2011 via debut single “My Girl,” a buoyant and innocent track styled after Justin Bieber and the early output of Chris Brown. Following the arrival of successor release “Mrs. Right,” their opening full-length #1 Girl landed at number seven on the Billboard 200; around that period the group stepped up from supporting Janet Jackson to leading their own national headline tour. Second album All Around the World arrived in March 2013, opening at number six on the Billboard 200 only to fade rapidly and underperform commercially. Over the ensuing two years membership shifted, with EJ and Mike River stepping in for the departed Prodigy and Roc Royal to track the third project #OfficialMBMusic. Both the singing style and subject matter diverged sharply from prior efforts, leaning more heavily into rap and explicit themes.
