DJ Encore operates from his base in Copenhagen, Denmark, as a producer, engineer, songwriter, and mix specialist whose primary collaboration involves the Danish singer Engelina. Born Andreas Hemmeth in Copenhagen during 1979, he crafts a sleek, high-energy strain of dance-pop that carries a distinctly continental flavor. His upbringing amid Scandinavia’s music scene benefited from parents deeply immersed in the arts—his mother worked as a music instructor while his father performed classical pieces and advised on musical matters. From an early age his parents guided him toward piano and guitar lessons, and he quickly picked up computer-based mixing techniques. During his teenage years he kept advancing his formal training, then moved into production, engineering, and DJ work as he entered his twenties. By late adolescence he had established himself as a resident DJ across three Copenhagen clubs, earning recognition for his technical command of the decks. In those venues he demonstrated versatility, shifting between intense, rave-driven electronic styles such as trance and techno and warmer, melody-focused dance-pop or Euro-dance tracks. While engineering a session for the dance act Funkstar de Lux, he encountered a Sony Music Publishing representative who requested a demo and suggested a pairing with Engelina. Though their paths differed—she had previously focused on jazz and R&B—he and the vocalist connected creatively and launched a project on the publisher’s recommendation. Performing together as DJ Encore featuring Engelina, they released the debut single “I Can See Right Through to You,” which became a substantial success throughout Denmark and neighboring European markets and served as the theme for the Danish edition of Big Brother. Listeners across the region noted that the duo’s material avoided light, sugary Euro-pop conventions in favor of atmospheric, hypnotic, and immersive qualities. Like many Nordic acts, they compose exclusively in English, a language both speak with fluency despite Danish being their native tongue. The pair tracked their first full-length album, Intuition, in 2001; MCA issued the record in the United States the following January. “Walking on the Sky” followed as the second single across North America and Europe. A steady stream of remix assignments, production duties, and performances occupied him until 2007, when he delivered the album Unique.
