Hailing from Sinaloa, regional Mexican performer El Tigrillo Palma concentrates on corridos. Born Efrén Aguilar in El Baral, Guasave, Sinaloa, he achieved his initial major success through the 2006 narcocorrido “Los Chiquinarcos.” The track first surfaced on the album Pistiando con la Plebada before Univision placed it on later compilations such as Joyas de Coleccion (2007) and Los Corridos Favoritos del Jefe (2008). Univision also issued additional El Tigrillo Palma projects, among them Por las Calles Enlodadas (2007), home to the regional Mexican hit single “El 80”; Grandes Corridos de La Sierra (2007), which spotlighted the follow-up hits “El 24” and “El Bazucazo”; and the 2008 CD/DVD En Vivo Desde Hermosillo, Sonora, pairing live audio with concert footage. Once these Univision releases gained traction, rival labels began issuing their own El Tigrillo Palma material. Sony BMG delivered Fiesta Privada con Banda (2008) and Norteño y Chacaloso (2008), Universal reissued three earlier Morena Music titles—Cantándole al Chaka (2005), Pistiando en la Sierra (2006), and Anda Alterada la Gente (2006)—and EMI reissued the Aries Music Entertainment trilogy Mis Rolas Mas Chidas, Vol. 1 (2007), Mis Rolas Mas Chidas, Vol. 2 (2007), and Mis Rolas Mas Chidas, Vol. 3 (2007).
