Biography
Eli Derby, a vocalist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist, secured a prized place on the LVRN roster, issuing ethereal tracks shaped by '90s R&B such as "Gaslight" and the "Lately" collaboration with 6LACK. Both cuts featured on his debut EP Left on Read, which arrived in 2022.
Raised in Oxon Hill, Maryland, Derby began on drums before taking up piano and bass for services at his neighborhood church. His musically inclined parents urged him to explore vocals and guitar, after which he shared online covers while crafting original productions. Still in his teens, he inked a major-label pact with Universal's Love Renaissance imprint, better known as LVRN. His initial outing came on the label's 2020 holiday collection Home for the Holidays, where he joined fellow roster artists 6LACK, Summer Walker, and Shelley FKA Dram; the following year he dropped his first solo single, "Gaslight." Although steeped in '90s R&B textures, Derby's refined material also drifts toward hip-hop and bedroom pop. Early 2022 brought two further singles, "Love Song" and "Lately," just prior to the arrival of Left on Read.
