Biography
Born in Hong Kong in 1955, Elisa Chan left school at sixteen during the 1970s and joined the English-language band New Topnotes to start her singing career. Though her primary output remains in Cantonese, she has recorded extensively in Mandarin, Japanese, English, and Tagalog. By the 1980s she ranked among the territory’s leading figures, attaining her widest recognition through pairings with Leslie Cheung. Solo success followed in that same decade, yet those duets with Cheung stood as her most enduring work. Even after her commercial profile declined, she stayed active on stage in subsequent years.
