Erick Arc Elliott, known professionally as Erick the Architect, maintains multiple positions in the Brooklyn hip-hop collective Flatbush Zombies yet sustains an even broader solo discography that extends to the period of the group’s first recordings. Alongside his sample-driven productions, shaped by figures such as J Dilla, Madlib, and Alchemist, he functions as a versatile MC capable of shifting between playful, animated delivery and introspective depth. His recorded work stretches from the 2011 debut mixtape Almost Remembered to the 2024 full-length I’ve Never Been Here Before, an album that departed from his established boom-bap and neo-soul base to incorporate dancehall and psychedelic pop textures.

In 2010 Elliott co-founded Flatbush Zombies alongside Meechy Darko and Zombie Juice, drawing the ensemble name from the Brooklyn district that shaped their origins. That same year he issued his initial solo effort, the three-track Noir, crafted with producer Shinoshis. While establishing himself through the group, Elliott maintained a steady stream of independent releases, issuing the 2011 mixtapes Almost Remembered and Renvoi within a three-month span. Flatbush Zombies reached their commercial high point with 3001: A Laced Odyssey and Vacation in Hell, which entered the Billboard 200 at numbers ten and eleven respectively. In the interval between those projects he released the beat tapes Arcstrumentals, Vol. 1 and Arcstrumentals, Vol. 2, and joined Pouya, Ghostemane, and Shakewell on the one-off track “Death by Dishonor.” The five-song Future Proof EP arrived in 2021, spotlighting the soulful “Let It Go,” which featured Loyle Carner and FARR. While continuing to appear on other artists’ recordings—most prominently Jungle’s “Candle Flame”—Elliott assembled his debut solo album. The self-released I’ve Never Been Here Before surfaced in February 2024 and included contributions from George Clinton, Lalah Hathaway, James Blake, and Joey Bada$$. Five additional tracks were added for the November edition titled I’ve Never Been Here Before: The Director’s Cut.
