Everybodyduck came together in 1992 as an alternative CCM outfit on the campus of Southwestern Bible College in Phoenix, Arizona. Following graduation, two original members took full-time youth ministry positions in other locations, leaving singer Darin McWatters and guitarist Tim Sovinec to bring bassist Mark Stafford and drummer Tim Brinkman into the fold; the refreshed lineup then began performing at coffeehouses, churches, and colleges across the southwest. The band’s 1994 self-released cassette Ducktape sold out within seven months. After vocalist Miranda Landers joined, the group issued the CD What in mid-1995, which drew the notice of Rugged Records; the label put out Everybodyduck’s self-titled third album in 1996, where the single “Suzy’s Diet” became a hit. Stafford, Brinkman, and Landers departed after that release, prompting the addition of vocalist Audrey Hundson, bassist Cory Knapp, and drummer Michael Day. The new configuration entered the studio for 1998’s Still Know How to Groove. Their worship project Seized by the Power of a Great Affection appeared before Eight Seconds on a Holy Cow reached stores in spring 2000.
