Biography

Frequency is a Chicago quartet drawing together four AACM-linked jazz musicians—Ed Wilkerson on woodwinds, Nicole Mitchell on flutes and piccolo, Harrison Bankhead on bass and cello, and Avreeayl Ra on drums and percussion. Wilkerson and Bankhead share an extended collaborative past, while Ra and Bankhead previously worked together in groups led by Michael Mason and Malachi Thompson; all four have intersected through AACM activities, where Nicole Mitchell serves as co-president. The musicians formed the ensemble and issued their self-titled debut album in 2006 on Thrill Jockey.
