Hästpojken, a Swedish indie pop outfit from Gothenburg, emerged in 2007 under the leadership of Martin Elisson, previously the vocalist for Bad Cash Quartet. The lineup includes Elisson handling vocals alongside Adam Bolméus on guitar, Oscar Wallblom on bass, Pontus Tengren contributing percussion and synthesizer, Nico Janco on drums, and Matti Ollikainen at the piano. Elisson had already gained recognition fronting the Gothenburg group Bad Cash Quartet, responsible for the early-decade Top Ten successes Outcast in 2001 and Midnight Prayer in 2003. Once that band concluded its run, Elisson established Hästpojken, enlisting among others the longtime Broder Daniel drummer Lars Malmros. Their inaugural full-length effort, Caligula, arrived via Roxy Recordings in 2008 and achieved notable success by peaking at number 15 on the Swedish albums chart while yielding the singles "Shane MacGowan," "Caligula," and "Här Har du Ditt Liv." The follow-up release Från Där Jag Ropar from 2009 climbed into the Top Ten and spotlighted the track "Gitarrer & Bas, Trummor & Hat."
