Los Angeles outfit Hey Violet crafts pop that stretches from fizzy punk through trap and EDM textures, with guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist Miranda Miller, drummer/vocalist Nia Lovelis, bassist/lead vocalist Rena Lovelis, and guitarist Casey Moreta comprising the lineup. The group rose from the remnants of hard-rock outfit Cherri Bomb, redirecting its sound once vocalist/guitarist Julia Pierce departed in early 2013. Moreta entered soon afterward on a temporary basis before securing permanent status that March. The ensemble unveiled its fresh identity as Hey Violet in February 2015 and issued the single “This Is Why” the next month. It joined 5 Seconds of Summer’s Hi or Hey Records roster and supported that act on the road throughout May, June, and July to promote the debut EP I Can Feel It. Touring bassist Iain Shipp was elevated to official member in September 2016, shortly after the arrival of the poppier Brand New Moves EP that yielded the hit “Guys My Age.” Follow-up singles “Break My Heart” and “O.D.D.” paved the path to the 2017 full-length From the Outside, an album shaped by late-2010s slick-pop aesthetics and Julian Bunetta’s production. Early 2019 brought the standalone single “Better by Myself.”
