Emerging as Tennessee's counterpart to We Are Toonz, iLoveMemphis seized social media attention in 2015 through the pop-rap dance track "Hit the Quan," which surged in popularity on the scale of "Drop That Nae Nae" while he still performed under the earlier moniker iHeart Memphis. In collaboration with producer Buck Nasty, the rapper and dancer first appeared in 2014 via the single "SnapEmUp." Momentum built the following year as "Hit the Quan" reached clubs and lampooned the distinctive moves associated with Rich Homie Quan. Fan videos capturing the Quan dance proliferated alongside the track's rise, soon joined by "2For1," a release that simultaneously praised fresh sneakers and Kylie Jenner's appeal. That same year, Def Jam veteran Barry Weiss placed the MC under contract with his newly established imprint Records and its affiliated publishing arm Songs, at which point the shift to the name iLoveMemphis was formalized.
