Biography
Ira Stein, a pianist, launched his recording career in 1982 by appearing with oboe player Russel Walder on the Windham Hill album Elements. Beyond the 1986 project Transit, nearly all of his work throughout the rest of the decade appeared on Windham Hill compilations or on various recordings by labelmate William Ackermann. He rejoined Walder for the 1990 album Under the Eye, then returned two years afterward with Carousel, a solo chamber jazz outing. In 1994 Stein formed the Ira Stein Group, which included cellist Hans Christian and saxophonist Dann Zinn, and released Spur of the Moment.
