JEON SOYEON, widely recognized by her stage name Soyeon, rose to prominence as the driving force behind leading K-pop act (G)I-DLE. Once the ensemble secured its foothold through a string of high-ranking EPs and singles, she launched an independent path in 2021 with the Cube Entertainment-issued debut EP Windy.

Raised in Seoul, South Korea, Jeon So-yeon first channeled her creativity into ballet, claiming multiple victories in dance contests during her elementary years. A live Big Bang performance prompted her to redirect her ambitions toward music; she quickly gravitated to rap and earned a trainee contract with Cube Entertainment after its 2014 auditions. In 2016 she appeared on the company’s programs Produce 101 and Unpretty Rapstar while issuing the solo tracks “Jelly” and “Idle Song.” The decisive turn arrived in January 2018 when Cube named her leader of its forthcoming girl group (G)I-DLE.

(G)I-DLE swiftly asserted itself. Its opening single “Latata” amassed 5.9 million views within the first week, paving the way for further breakthroughs via the I Am EP and the chart-topping “Hann (Alone).” A succession of domestic award-show triumphs positioned the act among K-pop’s emerging standouts, expectations the members promptly fulfilled by reaching number two with follow-up EP I Made and extending their reach through the Japanese-language release Latata. Momentum intensified in the new decade: third EP I Trust entered at the summit of the Gaon Album charts, and 2021’s I Burn gained added traction from the group’s highest-ranking single yet, “Hwaa,” which peaked at number four.

Although Soyeon maintained an essential position within (G)I-DLE, her contributions to virtual ensemble K/DA—assembled for the video game League of Legends—had already supplied an early solo showcase. Long intrigued by the prospect of a solo career before the group’s formation, she stepped out independently in 2021 with the single “Beam Beam,” credited under the name JEON SOYEON. The assured EP Windy followed later that year.
