Born on November 13, 1995 in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, Jomiguel entered the world under his given name Bakangana Bora-uzima Joël. War and poverty marked his early years, yet music gradually emerged as both personal remedy and source of encouragement for others facing similar struggles. A household radio persisted despite ongoing financial strain, exposing him to the voices of Céline Dion, Corneille and Craig David and planting the first seeds of aspiration. While finishing elementary school in 2006, he encountered Eminem’s “Cleanin out my closet” video and immediately embraced hip-hop, filling every notebook cover with oversized repetitions of the artist’s name. By his fourth year of secondary school in 2010 he had begun composing his initial verses; the discovery of a CD loaded with rap instrumentals prompted him to lay down original lyrics and melody over Jeezy’s “Put on,” confirming his future direction. He simultaneously committed to memory numerous tracks spanning rap, R&B, pop and French-language music. His debut studio session occurred in 2017, when he recorded a reggae track at producer Mishka prod’s modest home facility; fans and local press responded favorably. The following year he launched his own YouTube channel to release singles, having developed both rapping and singing skills entirely through independent practice and thereby establishing himself as a self-taught, multi-genre performer.
