Biography
Veteran worship leader and composer Jon Reddick crafts lyrics centered on redemption and hope. His songs are crafted to spark conversation and reshape cross-cultural conversations around difference, healing, and faith. Blending contemporary gospel, praise & worship, and hymnody, his approach has connected with listeners across multiple generations. The 2019 debut single “You Keep Hope Alive,” released on TobyMac’s Gotee label, features live footage captured at Nashville’s Church of the City that has accumulated hundreds of thousands of views, while the track itself registered on streaming charts.
Born in Memphis as the son of a pastor and a church pianist, Reddick grew up alongside six siblings, among them Janice, a Stellar Award- and GMA Dove Award-nominated artist on Motown Gospel. Although he performed on piano and in choirs during high school, his songwriting truly developed in college, where he began composing material for services and directing a contemporary gospel ensemble. Following graduation, he stepped into church leadership, first guiding the worship team at a Memphis congregation before moving to a comparable position in Texas. There he concentrated on fostering connections across racial and generational divides, seeking to unite congregations and cultures within an inclusive expression of Christianity. His path later led him to Nashville, where he assumed the role of worship pastor at Church in the City and gained opportunities to refine his craft alongside Matt Redman, Tommy Sims, Josh Kerr, and Sheryl Crow. He also served as pianist and backing vocalist for Nicole C. Mullen and Mandisa on tour and in the studio.
In 2017 Reddick witnessed the violence that erupted in Charlottesville, Virginia, during the Unite the Right demonstration, which left hundreds injured and resulted in the death of a counter-protester struck by a vehicle. That event prompted him to co-write “You Keep Hope Alive” with fellow worship pastors Anthony Skinner and Jess Cates. After TobyMac signed him to Gotee in late 2018—having employed Reddick as his own worship pastor for the previous eight years—the singer recorded the track with producer Nathan Nockels. Issued in April 2019, the single quickly gained traction on streaming platforms and Southern radio, paving the way for a widely shared music video. Reddick built on that momentum with “God Turn It Around,” releasing its live video from Church of the City in August. He contributed piano and vocals to Aaron Shust’s Nothing to Fear and, together with Cates and Skinner, co-wrote the hit “In the Arms” for Terrian.
While preparing his debut album and continuing to co-lead worship at his church, Reddick recorded “Glory & Majesty,” which arrived on streaming services at the end of January as the project’s first single. Although the global coronavirus pandemic temporarily halted further plans, the track continued its upward chart movement. Undeterred, Reddick kept creating demos and sharing videos on Facebook, and he supplied a live rendition of “You Keep Hope Alive” to Gotee’s quarantine compilation Blessed.
