Biography
Cuban-American Jorge Moreno brought some of the freshest and most unconventional sounds into Latin music during the early 2000s. His debut album, Moreno, weaves together pop/rock, Afro-Cuban, Caribbean, and urban rhythms. Parental influences played a key role: his father, Tony Moreno, a Latin music expert, and his mother, an avid listener of American rock & roll and British pop, helped shape his path. Jorge Moreno first entered the popular-music world through a trio that spent three years performing internationally before disbanding. EMI Music Publishing then offered him songwriting work, after which he joined the Latin division of Maverick. There he recorded his first solo album with producers Andres Levin, A.T. Molina, and Lester Mendez. Moreno also delivered a memorable interpretation of Desi Arnaz' "Babalu" during a special broadcast marking the 50th anniversary of the I Love Lucy show.
