From a broad spectrum of disparate influences, the audacious vocalist and composer Just Loud forged a style that merged his fervent songwriting sensibility with deliberate echoes of 1980s electropop craftsmanship.

The Suffolk, Virginia native arrived in 1990 into a devout household anchored to a modest rural congregation. Defiant and restless, he severed those religious ties at fifteen and relocated to New York in search of a musical path. There he secured a recording contract with Five Seven Music and entered the studio alongside producer Dave “Sluggo” Katz, whose prior work included sessions with Katy Perry and other chart-topping acts.

Across multiple collaborative sessions the duo shaped the four tracks that comprise Just Loud’s first EP, Episode 1. Those recordings showcased his assured aesthetic through soaring falsetto R&B phrasing, vivid 1980s synthesizer textures, and expansive pop arrangements. Unabashed about its reference points, the project also featured a version of Radiohead’s breakthrough single “Creep.”
