Nigerian-born singer and songwriter Kah-Lo first drew widespread attention through her lively fusion of house, R&B, and pop. Viral recognition arrived in 2016 via her partnership with British producer Riton on “Rinse & Repeat,” a track that earned a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording. Her debut solo EP, The Arrival, followed in 2021, and she issued the album pain/pleasure in 2023.

Born Faridah Demola Seriki, she spent her childhood in Lagos, Nigeria, and later lived in London alongside her family. Music and songwriting entered her life during adolescence. At her parents’ urging she pursued a broad education, attending Vivian Fowler Memorial College in Lagos before enrolling at Hofstra University in New York, where she majored in marketing and received her degree in 2013. Although she accepted a marketing position after graduation, she kept performing, taking stages at coffee houses throughout Long Island, Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. During those years she contacted British producer Riton, initiating their creative alliance. Their first joint release, “Rinse & Repeat,” came out in 2015, quickly gained traction online, and secured the Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording. Building on that momentum, the pair issued the 2018 album Foreign Ororo, which featured “Rinse & Repeat” alongside further radio successes in the U.K. and Australia—“Fasta,” “Fake ID,” and “Ginger.”

The Arrival surfaced as a solo EP in 2020 and contained “Commandments,” later placed on the FIFA 2022 Soundtrack. That same year “Drag Me Out” appeared in Oscar de la Renta’s Spring campaign. Additional collaborations include Idris Elba’s “Baille,” Diplo’s “Give Dem,” the Knocks’ “Awa Ni’,” and Michaël Brun’s “Melanin’.” Drawing on this accumulated work, Kah-Lo released her first full-length solo project, pain/pleasure, in 2023, highlighted by the singles “GD Woman,” “Karma,” and “fund$.”
