Katerina Alexandre Graham, known professionally as Kat Graham, entered the world in Geneva, Switzerland, yet spent her formative years in Los Angeles, California. Her father’s position as a music executive eased her early entry into show business, where she began with a string of television commercials. During adolescence she served as a backup dancer for Missy Elliott and Jamie Foxx, later appearing in music videos by Akon, Justin Bieber, and additional artists. She soon shifted back toward acting, securing minor and sometimes recurring parts across various television programs. Momentum in music arrived in 2007 when she supplied guest vocals for will.i.am’s lighthearted Top 40 track “I Got It from My Mama.” Although she opened shows for the Black Eyed Peas on tour, she maintained her screen career; in 2009 she landed the enduring part of teenage witch Bonnie Bennett on CW’s The Vampire Diaries and contributed a note-for-note rendition of Garbage’s “Only Happy When It Rains.” A pair of subsequent singles stalled commercially until she joined A&M/Octone, which issued the assertive dance-pop cut “Put Your Graffiti on Me” in March 2012. The track climbed to number 12 on Billboard’s club chart and anchored the four-song Against the Wall EP that followed two months afterward.
