La Explosiva Banda de Maza operates as an expansive banda orchestra whose founding members entered the project between the ages of 17 and 25. Its sonic identity draws directly from the established Sinaloan banda lineage.

Cousins Guillermo, José, and Jorge Lizárraga—all career musicians—established the large ensemble in Sinaloa. Prior to launching this collective vision of Mexican Regional music, Jorge had performed as a trombonist alongside Espinoza Paz, Jenni Rivera, Banda Los Recoditos, and German Lizárraga. José Lizárraga logged seventeen years across numerous acts, though the bulk of that tenure unfolded with Banda el Recodo. Guillermo Lizárraga launched his path with Lupillo Rivera, subsequently moved to Carnival Band, and eventually created Banda La Sinaloense, which shared stages with La Arrolladora y Banda Ms; that same group later served as Gerardo Ortiz’s primary backing unit.

The three relatives initiated recruitment and auditions for additional sympathetic players of any age in the opening months of 2016. By September the lineup stood complete and the group had settled into intensive rehearsals. They soon began live performances and the release of concert footage on YouTube. Warner Bros. took notice of the ensemble’s intricate charts, freshly composed material, disciplined execution, and polished visual identity. Ahead of their debut album—captured in a live-studio setting—La Explosiva Banda de Maza released a narrative, professionally filmed clip for the romantic Sinaloan ballad “Para Ser Sincere” in August 2017; the video, helmed by veteran director Manuel Escalante, accumulated a million views inside fourteen days.
