La Granja originated as a Spanish pop/rock outfit assembled by vocalist Guillermo Porcel, bassist Carlos Garau, drummer Miguel Gibert and guitarist Kiko Riera, with guitarist Pablo Ochando added later. Victory at the 1986 Palma de Mallorca Festival secured the band its first recording opportunity, and DRO issued the resulting debut LP the next year. Subsequent releases on the same label comprised 1988’s Soñando En Tres Colores, which contained the pop hits “Los Chicos Quieren Diversión” and “Mas De Veinte Años,” followed by 1989’s Azúl Electrica Emoción and 1991’s El Efecto Dominó. Drawing on power pop rooted in the early-’60s American rock scene, the group self-produced Medicina Natural in 1994 at the same time DRO assembled a greatest-hits collection that appeared three years later under the title Los Mejores Productos De La Granja. Slurp! then put out 1999’s Amplifícalo, after which Zaragoza’s Grabaciones En El Mar reissued El Efecto Dominó in May 2000.
