Biography
Larry Fleet infuses country music with a soulful pulse that gives his honky-tonk tracks a confident edge and his slower numbers a quiet intensity. These qualities caught the ear of Jake Owen, who steered him toward the USA Network series Real Country. After finishing second on the 2018 season, Fleet joined Big Loud Records and delivered his first full-length project, Workin' Hard, in November 2019. Two years later he followed with Stack of Records, which housed the chart single “Where I Find God,” and in September 2023 he returned with the third album Earned It.
Born in White Bluff, Tennessee, Fleet began performing at six, singing and playing in his family’s bluegrass group. He later lived briefly in Chattanooga before moving to Nashville, where he juggled early songwriting with family responsibilities and a job promoting artists at WSM radio. An initial publishing contract yielded no results, so he continued writing while taking jobs in manual labor and as an electrician.
His path shifted in 2017 after performing a set of covers at a wedding reception held in a converted barn. Jake Owen happened to be in attendance, struck up a friendship, invited Fleet on tour, and secured him a place among the contestants on Real Country. By the time the show concluded, Fleet had already issued the independent singles “Wasted Time,” “Working Man,” and “Die Young.”
Big Loud, Owen’s own label, signed Fleet in 2019. He recorded Workin’ Hard with producer Joey Moi, whose credits include Florida Georgia Line and Jake Owen; the album spawned the singles “Tied Down” and “Lied About Love.” In summer 2020 Fleet released “Where I Find God,” which reached number 43 on Country Airplay and later appeared on the 2021 follow-up Stack of Records. Produced again by Moi, Earned It featured the single “Things I Take for Granted” along with songwriting contributions from Connie Rae Harrington, Luke Laird, Jesse Frasure, and additional collaborators.
