Biography
Layton Greene, an R&B vocalist rooted in St. Louis, crafts emotionally charged material that draws from hip-hop alongside the styles of Keyshia Cole and Aaliyah. Her 2017 take on Kodak Black’s “Roll in Peace” spread rapidly across social platforms, prompting a major-label contract and yielding the 2019 Top Ten R&B single “Leave Em Alone,” which featured Lil Baby, City Girls, and PnB Rock. That same year she issued her first EP, later issuing the standalone tracks “Chosen One” in 2020 and “Spin Again” in 2023.
Born in St. Louis, Missouri, on December 4, 1998, Greene nurtured an early passion for singing that remained personal until she turned 18. She began filming covers of favored songs and uploading them online; one such clip reworked Kodak Black’s “Roll in Peace” with fresh lyrics. The post quickly surpassed half a million views outside her immediate circle. She then teamed with producer G-Styles for a polished “Roll in Peace Remix,” which, after its November 2017 upload, accumulated more than three and a half million streams. Before the year closed she delivered another studio cut, her “Fed Up Remix” of Derez De’Shon’s “Fed Up,” again guided by G-Styles. Buoyed by the mounting response, she left her restaurant position to pursue music full-time. In 2019 Quality Control, an imprint tied to Universal, signed her; the resulting “Leave Em Alone” appeared on the label’s Control the Streets: Vol. 2 compilation, reached the upper tier of Billboard’s R&B chart, and crossed into pop territory. Her debut EP, Tell Ya Story, arrived later that year and contained the streaming favorite “I Love You.”
After the NOVA Wav-produced “Chosen One” surfaced in 2020, Greene welcomed her son and paused her career briefly. Her 2023 return with the sensual late-night track “Spin Again” signaled the approach of her first full-length album.
