LMNT

Originating from the results of a survey run by a popular teen publication, the group name LMNT evokes the elemental quartet of earth, wind, fire, and water existing in balanced unity. Assembled from contestants on the ABC series Making the Band, the act’s founding lineup partnered with producer Matthew Morrison to enter the dance-pop arena. Hawaiian-born Ikaika Kahoano (born 1978), who had previously performed alongside his younger brother, connected with Bryan Chan (born 1974), a onetime gospel vocalist and marketing student from Santa Barbara, CA, along with Mike Miller (born 1980), a Cuban/Jamaican descendant raised in Hackensack, NJ. Original fourth member Matt Morrison subsequently gave way to Jonas Persch, who hails from Salt Lake City, UT. The ensemble first reached listeners with the November 2001 single “Juliet.” Their full-length debut, All Sides, arrived on Atlantic the next summer.
