England's Lovejoy, a rambunctious indie pop outfit known for its humorous bent, operates under the leadership of Wilbur Soot, the well-known Internet personality, game streamer, and musician. The band entered the scene in 2021 via the EPs Are You Alright? and Pebble Brain, the second of which registered strongly across U.K. and European charts. Charts in both the U.K. and the U.S. were reached again when Wake Up & It's Over surfaced in 2023.

Will Gold, the birth name behind Soot, built visibility in the late 2010s through his widely followed video channels, which featured comedic reaction videos, meme commentary, and video game streaming. He also issued several humorous solo tracks as a singer-songwriter, chief among them the 2020 release "Your New Boyfriend," which registered on charts in the U.K. and Ireland. At the start of 2021 he assembled the four-piece indie band Lovejoy. Their first EP, Are You Alright?, arrived that May and merged energetic 2000s-inspired indie pop with quirky comedy rock. A follow-up, Pebble Brain, appeared in October 2021 and landed on multiple European charts, including a U.K. peak of number 12 and a placement on the Billboard 200 in the U.S.

From Studio 4, an unexpected EP of acoustic renditions drawn from the debut release, emerged in April 2023 as an acknowledgment to supporters. The third proper EP, Wake Up & It's Over, followed quickly in May and was produced by Mark Crew and Dan Priddy. Among its tracks, the single "Call Me What You Like" reached number 32 on the U.K. Singles Chart and number 24 on Billboard's Alternative Airplay chart.
