Lyn Lapid, a vocalist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist who also performs with the a cappella ensemble Earcandy, rose to prominence as a social media pop phenomenon in 2020 once a brief excerpt of her debut original composition, “Producer Man,” surpassed 70 million views. Two years afterward she issued her first major-label album, The Outsider.

A Filipino-American artist born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, she trained on classical piano before shifting her focus to violin as a teenager. Her innate musicality soon led her to add guitar and ukulele, and in 2018 she shared a ukulele-and-vocal rendition of H.E.R. and Daniel Caesar’s “Best Part” on YouTube. Additional covers—of Ariana Grande, Edith Piaf, Sarah McLachlan, and Sabrina Claudio—accumulated millions of streams and prompted her transition to TikTok in 2019, where she cultivated a substantial following. Later that year she offered an early preview of the original song “Producer Man,” which spread virally and attracted Republic Records. The completed version of “Producer Man” appeared later in 2020, followed by further singles that included the international success “In My Mind” in 2021; both tracks were featured on her 2022 debut EP, The Outsider.
