Born on May 21, 1985, in Cagliari, Italy, Marco Carta is an Italian pop singer who first attracted widespread attention by winning the 2008 edition of the reality competition Amici di Maria De Filippi. Orphaned early in life and raised by his grandparents, he had previously worked as a hairdresser in his hometown before auditioning for the program.

His recording career began with a contribution to the 2008 Amici-affiliated compilation Ti Brucia, where the track “Per Sempre” reached the Top 50. Later that year his debut solo album, Ti Rincontrerò, entered the Italian albums chart at number three, while its title song debuted at number eleven on the singles chart.

In February 2009 Carta triumphed at the 59th Sanremo Festival with “La Forza Mia,” the lead single from his second album of the same title. The record also peaked at number three, triggering an extensive summer tour and two TRL Awards for Man of the Year and Best Number One of the Year.

He sustained his prominence with the 2010 release Il Cuore Muove and the 2012 album Necessità Lunatica, both of which climbed to number two. In 2012 he additionally targeted Latin audiences by issuing several Spanish-language singles. After the 2014 hit “Splendida Ostinazione,” he released the holiday EP Merry Christmas. The 2015 single “Ho Scelto di No” appeared on the album Come il Mondo the following spring, and his sixth studio album, Tieniti Forte, arrived in May 2017.
